Sitting Bull — 2011

The great Lakota, Chief Sitting Bull, (c.1845 – 1877), was a medicine man, or holy man, of the Hunkpapa Lakota (Sioux), who were being driven from their land in the Black Hills. Under his leadership as a war Chief, Lakota tribes united in their struggle for survival on the northern plains. Sitting Bull, is perhaps best known in early American history as the chief who defeated General Custer in 1876 at the Battle of Little Bighorn, also for protecting his people whatever the cost. He was admired and respected as a savvy and fearless warrior Chief.
